Fitting In Without Changing Who You Are (Ep 148)
Fitting in is important to everyone. I love the trend I'm seeing in the community of helping people with disabilities fit in in a comfortable way. Feeldom is a great resource to truly provide One Bag for All!
On a recent trip to the Wisconsin State Fair, I saw so many different options of mobility devices for both adults and children and it reminded me about Feeldom Bags! These are a set of accessible bags that can be easily attached to wheelchairs and walkers and they allow the user so much freedom, a greater range of independence, and an increased ease of access.
It's really important as we get into the grind of the school year that we are making sure that we are supporting our students who have disabilities, who have different needs to access their environment, that we're helping them fit in, by not making them change, but by supporting their unique needs.
At the Master IEP Coach® Leadership Conference this summer, I brought these bags to share with our community. The teachers that were in attendance were showing me pictures of their own students using grocery bags and tote bags hanging off their wheelchair and other mobility devices because they needed so many ways to carry their items. Going back to school shopping and finding the perfect backpack for their year is a THING for a lot of students. And let's face it, we probably haven't thought enough about how a backpack can best fit the needs of our students with disabilities. But Feeldom has thought about it and it's GREAT!
One Bag for All!
Feeldom actually first started because the company's designer was asked to design a bag for the US Paralympic team that can hold all the equipment, clothing, orthotics, nutritional needs, and everything else that previously had to travel in multiple bags held by their caregivers. From there, Feeldom was born!
When we think of accessibility supports, we can't limit ourselves to just wheelchair ramps. This means we have to consider everything down to the perfect bag to help a child access their education and their community.
