3 Myths About Becoming a Master IEP Coach®

Hey there, it's Catherine Whitcher here, your host for the Special Education Inner Circle Podcast, and I'm absolutely thrilled to have you join me today. We've got something incredibly exciting brewing for this upcoming fall season, and I can hardly wait to spill the beans on it. So, let's dive right in and explore what's in store with our Master IEP Coach® Fast Track.

Now, if you've ever caught yourself thinking, "Maybe I want to be a Master IEP Coach®, but I'm not entirely sure what it entails," then my friend, this episode is tailor-made for you. I've had the incredible privilege of coaching countless individuals through the Master IEP Coach® programs, and along the way, I've encountered a few common myths that I want to dispel so that you can confidently take the next step towards becoming a Master IEP Coach®.

Myth number one: You might be thinking that being a Master IEP Coach® requires you to be a walking encyclopedia of all things special education. But guess what? That's far from the truth! You don't need to have every single detail memorized to become an outstanding Master IEP Coach®. In fact, the secret sauce lies in becoming exceptional in a specific area of expertise, one that's rooted in your own personal experiences.

Whether you're a parent, teacher, admin, or therapist, your unique journey gives you insights that are incredibly valuable. You know things that others don't. You've gained wisdom through the IEP process, and you're just a few steps ahead of those who are just starting out. So, it's not about knowing everything, it's about honing in on what you do know and using that to guide and empower other families.

Myth number two: The idea that you need to hold a certified teacher title to be a Master IEP Coach®. While we certainly have certified teachers in our Master IEP Coach® network, certification is not a requirement. There's no universally set standard for being an IEP coach. That's precisely why the Master IEP Coach® programs were created – to elevate the level of training and establish a gold standard for excellence.

The essence of being a Master IEP Coach® is in your dedication to ensuring that every child receives an appropriate education aligned with their unique needs. If that resonates with your values and you're passionate about collaborative problem-solving, then you're already on the right track, certified or not.

Now, let's address the big one, myth number three: "I don't have time for this." I hear you loud and clear. Balancing numerous commitments can feel overwhelming. But here's a thought: What if becoming a Master IEP Coach® could actually give you more time back in the long run? Initially, yes, you'll need to invest time in learning and training, but the result can be more control over your schedule, and even greater peace of mind.

Consider this: If you're managing a whirlwind of appointments, activities, and household responsibilities, what if becoming a Master IEP Coach® brings in additional income that lets you tackle these challenges with more ease? Worrying about the grocery bill, how you’re going to be present with the ones you love plus get your to-do list done, and constantly wondering if you need a side hustle because inflation stinks, are all taking up brain space that you could free up sooner than later as a Master IEP Coach®.

So there you have it, the three myths debunked. If any of these misconceptions have been holding you back, it's time to let them go. You've got what it takes to overcome them. And if you're ready to take the plunge, you're probably wondering about the next steps. Well, we've got you covered.
